- Alberta Major Crimes has taken carriage of a homicide investigation on the Sturgeon Lake Cree Nation.
Early yesterday morning, Valleyview RCMP found a person deceased, to which police say is an isolated incident. - The Transportation Safety Board is investigating a plane crash in Vermilion, that claimed the life of two people.
A 46 year-old woman from Slave Lake, and a 76 year-old man from Mannville were killed when their plane went down short of the runway, north of town. - Alberta has around 50 fires burning, with around 20 being out-of-control.
Rainfall has helped in recent weeks with fire supression, however weather is getting warmer and drier, especially in the Northwest.
Authorities are expecting activity to increase, especially with the upcoming self-induced long weekend. - Peace River is continuing to discuss Crime and Vagrancy in the downtown, now High Prairie wants to discuss initiatives as well.
Town Council is hosting a Public Forum tonight, 6pm at the Gordon Buchanan Center. - Wheatbelt Baseball League tonight… Grimshaw is in Rycroft. The Huskies are 5-4, the Rage are 4-3. Peace River is in Sexsmith. The Stamps are 6-2, the Rainiers are 3-3.
- The 2025 Hall of Fame class will be announced tomorrow. Notible names in their first year of eligability are Joe Thornton, Zdeno Chara, Duncan Keith and Carey Price.
- The NHL draft starts Friday, with the Islanders having the first pick.
- The PWHL has their draft tomorrow, and it could have a local twist. Spirit River’s Dayle Ross is projected to go in the later rounds.
Ross has spent the last four seasons at St. Cloud State University in Minnesota. - Decent weather is scheduled for the Northwest for this afternoon. A slight chance of showers is also present, with highs around 20, except for just 16 in the Big Lakes.
Lows tonight are around 7 or 8 degrees, with digits getting slightly warmer during the day, for the rest of this week.
