  1. Peace River, Slave Lake and Grande Prairie’s Forest areas have lifted their Fire Bans, thanks to this past weekend’s rainfall.
    However, High Level’s Ban is still in effect, due to lack of moisture in the area.
  2. Whitecourt RCMP have two in custody on weapons and failure to comply charges.
    A 32 year-old man from Whitecourt and a 33 year-old from Fox Creek face an array of offenses.
  3. Peace River-Westlock MP Arnold Viersen has been appointed to the Standing Committee on Veteran’s Affairs.
    Viersen says his first priority is to initiate a study on mental health and suicide prevention for veterans.
  4. Seeding in the Peace Region is nearly complete, with over 90% of crops planted, significantly ahead of the 5- and 10-year averages.
    However, soil moisture levels are currently suboptimal, with sub-surface moisture rated at 16% poor, 48% fair, and 36% good.
  5. The proposed Peace River Nuclear Power Project is still in the consultation stage, and continues to gain steam.
    Public Town Halls are happening throughout next week at various locales in the Region.
  6. Two of Alberta’s health-care workers’ unions are calling on the Provincial government to reverse its policy forcing many to pay for a COVID-19 vaccination.
    Most Albertans, including health-care workers who don’t fall into a high-risk category, and seniors who live independently, will have to pay out of pocket.
  7. Game 6 of the Stanley Cup final is tonight. Edmonton is in Florida, the Panthers lead 3-2.
  8. The Toronto Blue Jays start a three-game set with Arizona at Roger’s Center tonight. Chris Bassitt starts for the Jays against Brandon Pfaadt.
  9. A mix of sun and cloud with a chance of showers is forecasted for the Northwest this afternoon. Highs are in the Low to mid 20’s, with lows tonight being around 10.
    Temps cool off a little in the Peace and Big Lakes, and on Friday in the Mackenzie.
