Peace River Town Council Highlights

  • Peace River Town Council is offering financial support to the Peace River Ski Hill. They voted to help cover a $40,000 debt that the ski hill has with the Federal Government (CEBA). $20,000 will be given through a grant, while the remaining twenty grand will be offered in an interest free loan.
  •  Council elected not to support the $1000 request from the Pride Society to cover Peace Regional Pool fees to put on quarterly swimming events. Four motions ranging from $250 to $1000 were all defeated 4-votes-to-3.
  • Discussion included an invitation from the RCMP K Division to meet at the end of September. Council agreed to it, to discuss topics surrounding homelessness, and other issues of community safety downtown. A list of areas of concern will be presented to the Deputy Commissioner at a meeting in Edmonton during the Alberta Municipalities Conference.
  • Cold Shot is looking for monetary support from the province… citing severe financial hardship. The company provides bussing and delivery service for rural communities, and they’re currently lobbying municipalities and towns to back their request. One of the concerns brought to the attention of Peace River Town Council last night, is that a lack of Cold Shot Service could directly effect the transient and homelessness crisis. Council voted in favour of providing a letter of support.
  • Discussion continued around the Council Remuneration Policy.  More changes were made.
Hope is that a final draft can now be provided to vote on at a later meeting.
  • Peace Library System CEO Louisa Robison provided a presentation on what the PLS does for Peace River
