Cadotte Lake, Alta. – On July 12, 2023, officers of the Western Alberta Crime Reduction Unit (WAD CRU) and Peace River Detachment with support from RCMP Police Dog Service and Air Services, were engaged in efforts to locate wanted priority offender Kyle Edward Ominayak (32). Officers attended a home in Cadotte Lake and after a short search, located Ominayak hiding inside a couch. Ominayak resisted arrest and a struggle ensued with him ultimately being subdued.
In the course of his arrest Ominayak sustained injuries and was transported to hospital where he was treated and released.
One of the responding officers sustained an injury to his hand. The officer was taken to hospital where he was treated and continues to recover at home
Ominayak has been additionally charged with:
- Resist arrest
- Attempt to disarm officer
- Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose
Ominayak has been taken before a justice of the peace and remanded in custody with his next court date set for July 18, 2023 at the Alberta Court of Justice in Peace River.
“ Our crime reduction units focus on those individuals who cause the most harm to our communities,” says Cpl. John Learn of WAD CRU, “ unfortunately, these individuals often pose a greater risk to the safety of our officers during arrests. We hope for the speedy recovery of our officer.”
