A new family medicine physician is now practising in the community of Fairview!
Dr. Mohamed Elgaoud will be joining Dr. Harley (Bob) Irvine and Dr. Sally Andreiuk; practising out of the Fairview Medical Clinic and providing care at the Fairview Health Complex.
Health Minister Tyler Shandro welcomed Dr. Elgaoud to the community in a statement “Family physicians are the cornerstone of healthcare, especially in rural communities. His arrival will help support the health and wellness of residents and families in Fairview, as well as provide more stable physician coverage in the Fairview Health Complex emergency department.”
The emergency department at the Fairview Health Complex has temporarily closed three times since May 11, 2021 because of no physician coverage.
Shandro has been call-out by NDP Leader Rachel Notley, blaming him for recent shortages and gaps in the provinces healthcare system. Many emergency departments have had to close temporarily due to physician shortages and beds in multiple communities have closed because of a lack of LPNs and RNs.
Alberta Health Services is continuing to recruit family physicians for across northern Alberta to meet community needs. Two more family physicians are expected to start practising in Fairview by this fall. More information on the new doctors will be available closer to their start dates.
