Peace Regional RCMP looking for community input

The Peace Regional RCMP wants to learn from residents about any concerns they have about police issues.

Staff Sergeant, Jesse Onaissi is taking the lead on this community discussion and says due to COVID-19, it will be different this year.

“The original plan was to have face-to-face town hall meetings to open it up to residents throughout the region,” says Onaissi.

Starting today, the detachment is taking e-mails and snail mail from residents until July 31 but Onaissi says people can still reach out anytime.

“I am always open for people to call me, send me an e-mail, or reach out to the detachment,” he says.

He also points out that he will come to you if you have any policing concerns and gives an example.

“I have five or six people in Berwyn who are concerned about crime taking place in the community and I am always willing to come out,” explains Onaissi.

Onaissi says no issue is too big or too small and encourages as much feedback and input as people are willing to give.

“Our property crime numbers are up and part of that is because we have encouraged residents to report it,” he points out.

“If we get reports, for example, of 10 people stealing generators, we can address that specific crime so the more information we have, the better we can respond.”
