A new report to the school board is raising concerns about the future of Nampa Public School’s enrollment and funding.
Superintendent Dr. Jeff Thompson says projected enrollment for September 2026 sits at 36.5 full-time equivalent students, with kindergarten counted at half. That continues a steady decline from 43 students in 2023–24 to 37.5 this year.
Thompson warned that if enrollment drops below 35, it could significantly impact the division’s finances. Under the province’s funding model, schools with 35 to 54 students receive a set allocation of about $487,000. Falling below that threshold would shift Nampa into a lower tier, cutting funding by more than $200,000.
Board members say the situation highlights the challenges facing small rural schools. They’ve committed to advocating for changes to the funding model while monitoring enrollment closely, with an updated count expected in fall 2026.
