Coming this Christmas is the 3rd look at the classic Roald Dahl character of Willy Wonka. Timothée Chalamet will be the famous chocolatier taking the mantle from famed actors Gene Wilder and Johnny Depp. The movie will also feature Keegan-Michael Key, Sally Hawkins, Olivia Colman, Rowan Atkinson and not to mention Hugh Grant as an Oompa-Loompa. The movie will also be directed by Paul King, the director of the critical and commercially successful Paddington movies.
Wonka will tell the wondrous story of how the world’s greatest inventor, magician and chocolate-maker became the beloved Willy Wonka we know today.

From the trailer this will certainly be a unique movie slated for a December 15th. While I am intrigued by Hugh Grant as an Oompa-Loompa it is not getting me interested to sit in the cinema to watch and part ways with my money for. The fact there is a “Chocolate Cartel” is very telling that I don’t see this being a well thought through movie and ultimately will be disjointed, while they will say the wacky character is why it is. I do like both films based on the classic Roald Dahl character, though I do not see Chalamet being nearly as good as Wilder or even, depending on how you viewed him, Depp’s turn as the chocolatier. I will have to see new trailers or commercials that will hopefully put my mind at easy in the next 5 months.
