Twisters Will Blow You Away

twisters-2024-is-it-prequel

Twisters is a stand alone sequel to the original 1996 film but updates it especially with the tornado chasing culture that has come along way since the original. The movie brings great leads with Glen Powell as Tyler, the social media sensation “Tornado Ranger” as well as Daisey Edgar-Jones as Kate a former tornado chaser. The movie shares elements of the original but with a modern spin and take that will delight fans of the original as well as newcomers to the films.

The plot of the Twisters is, Kate Cooper, a former storm chaser haunted by a devastating encounter with a tornado during her college years who now studies storm patterns on screens safely in New York City. She is lured back to the open plains by her friend, Javi  to test a groundbreaking new tracking system. There, she crosses paths with Tyler Owens, the charming and reckless social-media superstar who thrives on posting his storm-chasing adventures with his raucous crew, the more dangerous the better. As storm season intensifies, terrifying phenomena never seen before are unleashed, and Kate, Tyler and their competing teams find themselves squarely in the paths of multiple storm systems converging over central Oklahoma in the fight of their lives.

Though the storytelling at times can be predictable it is a bright spot in a year where blockbusters have been far and few in between, as well as being a solid movie. Glen Powell’s charm and charisma captivates the audience and shows why over the past few years he has been a rising star in Hollywood. Twisters effects were top notch which in this day and age are an absolute must notably in a disaster film. Not to mention the killer soundtrack with songs that can/should be hits on their own but fit perfectly into the film itself.

The movie has been the most fun I have had watching one this year with very few on the horizon that might be able to top it in that regard. I wouldn’t mind a sequel should one be made, I would be first in line to watch it.

Final Grade: 8.5/10
