The Great Soup Debate

This is a topic I didn’t think needed to be talked about but as I started my adult life I realised it was a bigger issue than I initially thought.

The topic I am referencing here is if soup is a meal.

Personally, I think soup is a meal, and a wonderful variety of food. It can be so versatile. Depending on the ingredients that you put in it it can completely change the flavour and texture of it, making one soup taste completely different from another.

My favourite is Italian Wedding Soup because it has just orbs of noodles and orbs of meat that some refer to as mini meatballs.

This whole thing came about when I first moved out and started my life in college. I had some roommates and life was great! I got along with them, and we had fun…until one day I decided that I would make dinner.

I had some cans of chicken noodle soup and thought that it would be a quick and easy meal. Along with the soup I also made cheesy bread. I was  ready to enjoy this soup and bread, but not them.

When I handed them the soup and bread they told me that soup is not a meal. They usually only have it when they are sick, when it’s really cold, or on special occasions.

So that is when my mind got blown! I grew up eating soup sometimes with bread, sometimes with sandwiches, sometimes with more soup but either way I always enjoyed soup as a meal.

So of course everytime I had to make dinner after that I never made soup…even though I really wanted to.

Just to make sure that I wasn’t insane in this thought I threw this out on one of my daily instagram questions and thankfully most people were with me here with 92% of people saying that soup is in fact a meal.

You know they always say that growing up you’re going to be faced with a lot of tough decisions. The choice to make soup because it might be controversial, I didn’t think would be one of them…but I’ll just let you stew in that one.
