This weekends Headliner was Devin Cooper. Devin is from Innisfail, Alberta and is a fast rising star in Alberta country music. Devin this past year was nominated for 7 CMAB Awards and was the winner of the Horizon Male Artist of the Year. Devin has released some good tunes in the last few years including “Underdog” which was the first song ever played on Rising Stars.
Devin’s music tends to be a blend of country and southern rock which is what he grew up listening to why learning about classic cars and motorcycles. The love of music and motorcycles was eventually combined with his “Ride to Remember” charity events which have raised over $50,000 to date for the Alzheimer Society of Calgary in 4 years. It truly is great to see artists give back to the community and he was recognized with a Community Spirit Award nomination at the past CMAB Awards.
I got to know Devin last year in Calgary during the 2022 CCMA Week and got to talk with him at media row and had a drink or two with the talent artists. In my recent conversation with Devin we talked about his music, his charity work and his latest single “What You Don’t Know.” We discussed what led to the “2 am” version of the track which is acoustic and piano.
