Although it’s called The Flash, The movie is not fast to be over. It has a runtime of 2 hours and 24 minutes.

Aside from that, I don’t think this was my favourite recent DC film. I know that DC tends to get a bad rap but I have enjoyed the last couple. For example, Shazam! or the most recent Batman starring Robert Pattinson. So, I’m not sure what exactly it was about this movie that didn’t do it for me. Maybe the portrayal of these iconic characters or maybe the story.

Either way first lets me fill you in on the plot. This movie is doing the Flashpoint storyline where Barry Allen AKA the Flash runs fast enough to go back in time. Although he is warned against it, he goes back and tries to save his mother from dying. This messes with the timeline and causes a whole lot of problems that he must face. Although he is not alone. he joins forces with a Batman from an alternate timeline, Supergirl and even himself.

I always thought the Flash was a fun character, especially in the justice league but in this movie, he is forced to take a more serious role. This leads to some scenes that just almost give me secondhand embarrassment for how they were done. I just thought that the Flash was so awkward to watch as he interacted with anybody. Although awkwardness can be done in a good way I didn’t feel like this was one of those times.

That’s not to say there weren’t things I liked about the movie. Knowing things about DC made this movie better due to all the cameos and lore drops. It was exciting knowing that they touched on some of those. Also, there is a big battle scene in the movie and visually that was really cool to see with all the special effects and just big bombastic superhero action.

But overall I had hoped for more from this movie especially considering this is supposed to now be the start of the new DCEU that James Gunn is starting.
