A Super Hero who isn’t very super.

Black Adam is a recent superhero film from DC comics. In the past, DC’s track record has not been as stellar as Marvel’s. Other reviews I have seen have given it some mixed scores. Despite that, I did find myself really enjoying this.

The movie follows black Adam played by Dwayne “the rock” Johnson as he is recently summoned after being sealed for 5000 years. He then starts dealing out his own form of justice. The Justice Society…yes Justice society…not League…feel that his form of justice is not right and that he is dangerous. They are then dispatched to stop him but as it turns out Black Adam is not the real threat…

There was a lot that happened in this movie and I felt like the first half was very information heavy with them explaining Black Adam’s back story, introducing who the Justice Society is and going into the lore of the ancient city and artifacts. Once it gets through all of that, I felt like the movie started to really find itself. It had some really fun fight scenes and a lot of interesting visual effects. The environment was visually appealing and there was lots of cool destruction as black adam tears through the city. There is also a really great slow-mo scene right at the beginning of the movie

The contrast between the Justice Society and Black Adam is something that I have not seen as many movies do. Usually, it is the typical “yay hero is here to save the day” but it’s not quite as black and white for Black Adam.

Although if I had one critique it would be the romance between a couple of members of the Justice Society was not earned at all and felt very rushed. It didn’t take away too much from the overall movie and they even made jokes commenting on it which made it a little more tolerable.

Overall I would totally recommend checking out this movie. There is also an after-credits scene, because all movies love to do that now, but it does help tie Black Adam into the bigger DC extended universe.

I have included the trailer here if you still want more info but I actually wouldn’t recommend checking it out. There is a big spoiler that they reveal in it. I found it much more fulfilling to figure out while watching the movie.
