Canadian country music star Lindsay Ell will be the 2024 recipient of the Gary Slaight Music Humanitarian Award during Canadian country music week. The Calgary singer is being recognized for achievements with The Make You Movement charitable fund, in addition to her outstanding advocacy work and support for sexual assault survivors and the LGBTQ2SIA+ community. The award recognizes an individual(s) and/or event(s) that have made an outstanding contribution of time and energy in the support of humanitarian causes through country music.
Lindsay has never shied away from using her platform for cause and movements she believes in and continues to be open with people and fans in many ways that most people in her position aren’t. In the press release Ell is quoted as saying:
“I think one of the most important responsibilities of artists is to use their platforms for good, to do everything they can to change the world or at least make it better for those whose voices aren’t always heard,” said Ell. “I’m so proud of what we have accomplished through The Make You Movement and know that this is just the beginning. Thank you to both The Slaight Family and the CCMA for inspiring this community to dig deep and help where we can with the creation of this award. I promise to continue this work with both passion and dedication.”
Lindsay isn’t just a rock star on the stage but in real life as she strives to let her voice be heard in any arena, whether it is an actual arena or in the media. You truly “can’t shut me (up, up)”.
