Friday 5 – Unanswered Questions In Songs

letters-abc-alphabet-journal-1

This weeks Friday 5 I wanna look at 5 songs that ask questions that we never got answers to. In songs we often are posed questions but I find a lot of the time we never get answers to them. These are my top 5 unanswered questions in songs.

5. Should I Stay or Should I Go ?

The Clash asked an important question back in 1982, wondering if they should stay or if they should go now ? knowing if that either way there would be trouble, but would be double if they stayed. We never did find out the answer, and it would be great to find out if someone ever gets the chance to ask.

4. Who Are You ?

The Who track makes for an amazing CSI theme , but we never did find out who The Who were looking for or even why they where wondering who the person was. It also leaves you wondering why they are so desperate in their pleads to discover who the person is.

3. What is Love ?

In the 90’s Haddaway asked a question we would all love to know the answers to, what is love ? The song became more successful years after it’s release notably due to The Night At The Roxbury SNL sketch and movie, but we never were told what love is. Despite pleas that “baby” not hurt him. All these years later we have no answer from the song as to what love is.

2. Where did Cotton Eye Joe come from and where did he go ?

A song with questions surrounding the meaning of the song, which has changed over the years as well as predates the American Civil War. The Rednex’s one hit wonder leave the listener wondering where did Cotton Eye Joe come from and where did he go but also why did Cotton Eye Joe prevent him from being married ? So many questions from the ear worm song.

1. Who put the bomp in the bomp bah bomp bah bomp and Who put the ram in the rama lama ding dong?

Taking the top spot is the Barry Mann classic, as we have been wondering since 1961 Who put the bomp in the bomp bah bomp bah bomp and Who put the ram in the rama lama ding dong? An answer I have wondered since I was a kid first hearing it at a drive in theatre where they play these old school songs before and in-between movies. I have lost so much sleep waiting for the answer to this question and also did they ever get to shake his hand if he did ever find out the answer.
