Friday 5 – Love Songs

letters-abc-alphabet-journal-1

This week for the Friday 5 I am looking at love songs with Valentine’s Day on the 14th and us having out Love Lines contest beginning next week. So many amazing love songs it is hard to narrow the list down but I feel like I got a 5 I can be happy with even if it has been changed so many time over the last couple days. Here is my list for my Top 5 Love Songs.

5. Shania Twain – “You’re Still The One”

Kicking off the list is Shania Twain’s “You’re Still The One.” The song just hits all the right notes with a soothing  beat and lyrics that describe a love that defied people’s expectations. It is a song that couples can listen to and reminisce of the good times while looking forward to more ahead of them. The song was written as people didn’t believe Shania and then husband Mutt Lang’s marriage would last given the age difference. Her marriage would last 12 years after the songs release.

4. The Temptations – “My Girl”

Going old school and upbeat for number 4 with The Temptations “My Girl.” This song might be the best puppy-love song ever. The sweetness of the lyrics may give you a cavity, but it is a joyous song celebrating ones partner. It might be from 1965 might it is time tested and proves love songs don’t need to be slow and sappy but can be catchy and up beat.

3. Lonestar – “Amazed”

This 90s classic from Lonestar sets the mood for an anniversary or valentines day or even a date night. Richie McDonald’s lead vocals for “perfectly convey the tenderness and wonder felt in a loving relationship.” With lyrics like:

“I don’t know how you do what you do
I’m so in love with you
It just keeps getting better
I wanna spend the rest of my life
With you by my side
Forever and ever”

How does it not just melt that heart of ice.

2. Peter Frampton – “Baby I Love The Way”

Peter Frampton’s 1975 hit “Baby I Love The Way” is one of the most beautiful love songs. The song is simple but conveys the message of being in love with someone and just wanting to tell them as such. The chorus just sticks with you:
“Ooh, baby, I love your way, every day, yeahI wanna tell you I love your way, every day, yeahI wanna be with you night and day”

How bad is it I only learnt about this stellar song because of an episode of Family Guy.

1. George Strait – “I Cross My Heart”

To top a list like this you would have to be a king, oh wait George Strait is the king of country and with love songs like “I Cross My Heart” it is easy to see why. The song is off the soundtrack for Pure Country which starred George in as the main character. The soundtrack is actually his best selling album. “I Cross My Heart” is a song that just listening to it can bring tears to your eyes. It’s not layered in metaphors/similes just a straight forward song professing ones love for another person.
