Chicken, Burgers, and Fish! Oh My!

McDonald’s restaurants just added three new sandwiches to their menu: Sweet Chili Jr Chicken sandwich, Chicken Burger, and a Surf n Turf sandwich. I had to give them a try.

First I tried out the Sweet Chili Jr Chicken. This was something I was expecting to enjoy. It’s a regular Jr Chicken with lettuce, mayo sauce, a bun… but it also added a sweet chili sauce to the mix. I think these are flavours you’d have to try hard to mess up. Sweet chili with chicken is always a good combo. The lettuce was good, if a bit messy, but it was a solid sandwich. So I’d score that a 8 outta 10.

Then the Chicken Cheeseburger. The start of the two proteins, one sandwich deal they’ve got going on here. It was surprisingly good. Both of these proteins went together well. I didn’t do a lot of research on these sandwiches going in, so the pickles, onions, and condiments were a nice touch. It worked surprisingly well with both the chicken and burger patties. I’ll give it an 8 outta 10.

But the one that I’m most hesitant about is the Surf n Turf. Historically, I’ve not had the best relationship with fast food fish. Even McDonalds own famous fillet o fish has been more of a miss than a hit. So I was uncertain about combining fish and hamburger. Overall, however, it wasn’t half bad. I think even though the sandwich already had two burger patties, it wasn’t enough to compensate for the Alaskan Pollock’s taste. But it was evident that both were there, even though the fish taste was a bit strong. Not something I’d personally get again, but I’d recommend giving it a try. 7 outta 10.

These three sandwiches tasted great, and I think they’re all worth trying out at least once. Out of the three, my favourite was the Sweet Chili Jr. Chicken. I’d be okay if that stuck around on the menu.
