Ice Advisory for areas north of Peace River

img_7301

Ice breakup is now underway along the Peace River between Highway 986 and the Notikewin River confluence, with officials closely monitoring changing conditions.

A rapid rise of three metres at Berreth Flats on the evening of April 27 suggests a possible downstream ice jam.

While ice movement is a normal part of spring breakup, authorities say current river flows mean flooding is not typically expected in this area.

However, water levels can shift quickly as ice jams form or release.

Residents are urged to use extreme caution near the river.

The advisory remains in effect and may be extended further downstream if conditions change.
