The Impact Assessment Agency of Canada has concluded its review of the proposed Mihta Askiy Data Center Project in Alberta, determining the project is unlikely to cause significant adverse effects under federal jurisdiction.
The decision, made under the Impact Assessment Act, follows consultations with federal experts, Indigenous communities, stakeholders, and the public. The agency found that any potential environmental impacts can be effectively managed through existing laws and regulations.
These protections include federal legislation such as the Migratory Birds Convention Act, 1994, Fisheries Act, and Species at Risk Act, alongside Alberta laws like the Environmental Protection and Enhancement Act and the Water Act.
With no further federal assessment required, the review process is now complete. The project’s proponent, Cree Ative Datacenter Corp GP, must now secure the necessary permits and approvals before moving forward.
