The Fairview Regional College Transition Committee (FRCTC) continues its work toward a long-term solution for the Fairview Campus, following several weeks of planning, engagement, and proposal development.
In recent meetings, the committee has focused on preparing an initial proposal for the Minister of Advanced Education. The proposal outlines a vision for the future of the Fairview Campus, including governance and operational direction, identifies potential program focus areas, and seeks additional time to complete a full business plan in early 2026.
The committee is also developing a concept for a future Fairview-based post-secondary institution. The long-term goal is the creation of an independent institution, while a short-term approach would involve partnerships with existing post-secondary providers. Program offerings are being considered with regional labour needs in mind, particularly in trades and agriculture.
Engagement with government and potential partners is ongoing. Alberta Advanced Education officials are working with the committee to explore options and legislative pathways, while discussions continue with other post-secondary institutions regarding partnership opportunities.
The FRCTC has also met with Treaty 8 leadership, who have expressed interest in Fairview becoming a northern training hub for trades and agriculture-related programs.
In addition, the committee is gathering information to support informed decision-making. This includes formal information requests to Northwestern Polytechnic, as well as the review of leases, background documents, and financial information related to the campus.
To support its work, the committee is securing short-term funding for legal services, financial analysis, business planning, and administrative support. Funding requests have been made to regional partners and municipalities, along with fundraising efforts, to ensure the work can continue without relying on Town of Fairview tax revenue. Community members interested in contributing can visit the Town of Fairview Administration Office.
The committee plans to continue its engagement with government, Indigenous partners, post-secondary institutions, and the community as work progresses into 2026.
