Movie Monday Mentions: Gabby’s Dollhouse: The Movie

A pinch on your left, a pinch on your right, and you’ll have fun with the whole family.
Gabby’s Dollhouse follows Gabby as she goes to Cat Fansisco with her Grandma GiGi. Once she arrives, she loses her magical dollhouse. The fashionista cat lady, Vera, finds it and claims it as her own. Gabby has to set out to get her dollhouse back and reclaim all her friends.
This movie is definitely geared towards younger audiences, but I think it did a good job of being enjoyable to the whole family. I saw kids singing along to the songs and parents laughing at some jokes that went over the kids’ heads. I think the overall message of ‘You’re Never Too Old to Play’ is a good one, and they convey it in a fun way.
The soundtrack for the film is really good; they have a lot of modern hits that kids would know and some original songs that actually had me bopping along too. The animation was also really good. They mix real-world and animation, and they even experimented with the framerates on some characters. This is the animation style you might have seen on something like Into the Spider-Verse. So I was surprised when a group of characters was animated in that style.
Overall, if you have younger kids, I think this is definitely a great one to take the family to, because even I had fun with this one.
