I put too much faith in HIM.
HIM follows this football player, Cameron Cade, as he is training to be the best football player around. One day, he suffers an injury and almost loses his chance to make it big, but he gets the opportunity to train under his hero for one last chance to make it into the big leagues. The only problem is his hero lives out in the middle of nowhere, and he must train in this remote complex with almost no way to reach the outside world. He starts to realize that things aren’t quite as nice as they seemed.
I am always on the lookout for a good horror movie, so I had high hopes for this one. Going in, I didn’t know too much, but my friend told me it was a Jordan Peele movie, and he is actually quite well-known for his psychological thrillers. Sadly, I don’t think this one hit the mark, for me, at least.
Visually, the movie features a wealth of symbolic iconography, alluding to the fact that sports are almost cult like. This one in particular might very well be. We also get to explore this unusual training complex. seeing everything from the indoor field, sauna, sensory deprivation tanks, and ice baths. Some of the more horrific scenes were interesting, but nothing that had me intrigued or on the edge of my seat.
Overall, I wasn’t the biggest fan of this one. I got more enjoyment out of some other horror movies I’ve seen. Whether the message just didn’t resonate with me or maybe it wasn’t great, I personally just wanted more out of it. But hey, maybe you’ll vibe with it. Check out the trailer below for more!
