Movie Monday Mentions: The Fantastic Four – First Steps

2025 has brought us another great superhero film!

A lot of people have been complaining about superhero movies over the last couple of years, but I’m afraid The Fantastic Four: First Steps should not be put on that list of bad movies. This film is a stand-alone story taking place a few years into the Fantastic Four’s life as superheroes, taking place in an alternate reality, a 60s retro-futuristic inspired world. First off, I love the world, the colours’ vibrancy and the life it has is so fun. Secondly, I love how they use it. The Fantastic Four are this Earth’s only heroes, which changes how situations are handled. So, when they inevitably arrive in the MCU along with the rest of the cast, I will be curious to see how they interact not only with the other cast members but with the world.

This movie does its characters well. Each of the Fantastic Four gets a moment to shine, and they each feel connected to one another as a family. There are times when they just go into each other’s rooms and check in on each other. I like that they do really feel like a team; they listen to each other and trust in each other wholeheartedly.

I also thought the acting was phenomenal. Each charcter really enveloped their role but Vanessa Kirby really stood out as Susan Storm the emotion that she showed in certain scenes portraying this mother reall heald alot of deep emotion and in interviews she said she really did want certain scenes to almost feel primal and show the love taht a mother has for her child which i feel really came through.

Overall, I thought the film was FaNtAsTiC…yes, pun intended. But really, it’s worth giving a watch, and even if you are burnt out on superheroes, I feel like this stand-alone story is enough to entice you on its own merits. If you want to see more, give the trailer below a watch!
