Fight or Flight: A Bit of A Mess… But A Fun Mess

fight-or-flight

Fight or Flight hit cinema’s back on Friday and seemed to go under the radar until just before the release. Fight or Flight stars Josh Hartnett, who has made a bit of a comeback in recent years as Lucas Reyes, a man who is recruited to identify and protect a wanted criminal aboard a commercial airline. After seeing the trailer I thought this is kind of like Bullet Train in ways, and in ways it was. It was a fun movie that had a tired me laughing throughout it, even if it was messy at times.

The movie thrives in its odd approach as a man ends up on a commercial flight with a bunch of hitmen after his target that he must protect and keep alive in order to get his life back. Josh’s Lucas Reyes is a seems normal until he isn’t especially when a mix up in something he drinks (later in the film), and Josh does a great job brining the character to life. Also shining is Charithra Chandran as Isha Mandhal, a flight attendant on the flight who plays well off Hartnett.

Where the movie falls a little short and messy is the subplot dealing with why they want to capture “The Ghost.” That whole backstory on the agency side and the motives are a little scattered and never really concluded that story properly, even if it was left open to a sequel.

The chance of a sequel may depend on a quick cult status as in it’s opening weekend it only netted $2.5 million dollars finishing 7th behind a lesser known horror film Clown in a Cornfield. It has good reviews and it is easy to see why. It is a movie that you cannot think to much about and just go with it, if you can do that you will enjoy it.

Final Grade: 8/10
