Well the trailer has dropped for the upcoming movie The Smashing Machine, which will see Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson tackle a dramatic role portraying former 2x UFC Heavyweight Champion Tournament winner Mark Kerr. The film sees the Johnson with some face prosthetics and having hair similar to what he used to have in his early Hollywood days. It is produced by A24, and independent film company responsible for Oscar winning and nominated films like Everything Everywhere All at Once, Lady Bird, The Whale, Moonlight, The Brutalist and films like Uncut Gems and wrestling film The Iron Claw.
The Smashing Machine will look at the life of a star of the early days of the UFC as he battles not just opponents but substance abuse. The movie gains it’s title from Kerr’s nickname and shares the name of a 2002 HBO documentary that chronicled the career of Kerr as well as focused on Kerr’s struggle with substance abuse, his relationships with his then-girlfriend (now ex-wife).
The upcoming film will see Johnson reunite with Jungle Cruise co-star Emily Blunt and will see Oleksandr Usyk (Heavyweight Boxing champion) in the film alongside many combat athletes being casted.
The Smashing Machine is set for an October 3rd release.
