It’s a big financial investment to help mitigate root rot and other issues.
The Alberta Pulse Growers has committed $2 million dollars to nine Pulse Cluster projects in the Agriculture and Agi-food Canada Agri Science Program.
The work supports dry-bean sustainability, pea breeding, root systems for drought tolerance, solutions to root rot of pea and lentils, and improving pea cultivars throughout the Prairie provinces.
The Pulse Growers say the combined research represents 5,400 growers in Alberta, valuing $21 million dollars over the next five years.
The vision is to have Alberta pulses on every farm, on every plate.
The Chair of the Alberta Pulse Growers is Shane Strydhorst.
