For this edition of my Friday Five, since it’s his birthday this weekend I decided to do in my opinion the Top 5 Dierks Bentley Songs. This may have been and could be the hardest Friday Five I have done given the volume of work and the fact that his work is filled with quality. I spent hours one night just listening to his music just to get it to about 10 then to whittle that down to 5 then rank those 5 was something else.
Here are in my opinion the 5 best Dierks Bentley songs:
5. Drunk on a Plane
A fun up tempo song with shades of lonesomeness, a difficult feat that Dierks clears. The song about a guy getting jilted on his wedding day stuck going on the honeymoon alone and turns the plane ride into a drunken party. The songs ability to mask some melancholy with a fun atmosphere earns it a spot on a list.
4. Lot of Leavin’ Left to Do
Lot of Leaving’ Left to Do is a fun upbeat song about how difficult relationships can be when you are on the road all the time. Dierks uses the song to warn that if you think he is going to settle down and leave the road behind you are sadly mistaken. The song has been to compared to Waylon Jennings as it comes across as a charismatic outlaw. The song was #3 in the US but #1 on Canadian Country Radio, which is nice to see.
3. What Was I Thinkin
The first single and his first of 18 #1. The song about going out with a beautiful girl that was nothing but trouble. The song is spent questioning what he was thinking cause he knew what he was feeling. Lets just say he was thinking with a different body part that isn’t his head.
2. Settle For A Slowdown
Settle for a Slowdown is a mid-tempo ballad about knowing the person is leaving but just hoping to see at least break lights for a second to indicate a moment of hesitation to bring some comfort but doesn’t see them. This song takes a creative and new approach to say something we have all heard before
1.Am I The Only One
This song I love because I have been this person on so many occasions, wanting to go out and have fun and people just had things they would rather do. This song resonates with me greatly and is just a lot of fun which helped me realize I won’t get anywhere waiting on other people, just go solo and have fun. It is an odd pick for #1 but hey this my list right.
