On May 20, 2021 Alberta Health Services confirmed 812 additional cases of COVID-19 in the province. The total number of active cases in Alberta is at 17,675. There are currently 665 people in hospital with the virus and 177 are in ICU.

In the North Zone for active cases, there are 167 in Mackenzie County, 43 in the MD of Greenview, 25 in the MD of Peace, 16 in the MD of Fairview, 12 in the County of Northern Lights, eleven in Big Lakes County, while all other surrounding counties and MD’s in our region have nine active cases or less.

Chief Medical Officer of Health Dr. Deena Hinshaw announced there are new quarantine rules for people that are partially or fully vaccinated.

Fully vaccinated people in Alberta who had their second dose two weeks prior will no longer have to quarantine at all if they are a close contact to a positive case and have no symptoms. If they have symptoms and test positive, they must quarantine.

People that have received just one dose and is a close contact, will get a shortened isolation period of ten days, from the standard 14 if they test negative.

These rules do not apply to international travellers as the 14 day quarantine period remains in effect.
