- Another section of the Peace River is under an ice advisory, this time it’s from the Highway 986 bridge near the Mercer pulp mill towards Notikewin Provincial Park.
Water levels have risen along that stretch suggesting that an ice jam has formed further downstream. - Some more steps have been taken by the provincial government when it comes to having nuclear power in Alberta’s energy grid. (Nathan Neudorf interview in separate story)
- Alberta’s government says it’s waiting to see what Ottawa decides when it comes to restricting youth access to social media.
Online safety advocates are hoping other governments will put their own limitations in place after Manitoba announced that they will ban “social media and AI chatbots” for youth and children. - Some debate as to suspending the fuel tax provincially, is being met with debate, as only 63% of a recent poll suggest that should happen.
This week, the Newsroom poll asks whether or not you have an Emergency Kit or Plan in place at home, or in the office? - The NWJHL is expanding back to Slave Lake, as the League announced it will play a 40-game schedule, with 9 teams.
The team is now working to get coaches and players established for the 2027 season. Slave Lake was an original team, when the NWJHL was founded, and played until 2014.

John Garrett played 207 games with Hartford, Quebec and Vancouver, before spending 40 years in the broadcast booth for Hockey Night in Canada.
Garrett was working the Vegas-Utah series for Sportsnet, when he passed away last night. John Garrett was 74 years of age. - Sunny conditions today and temperatures warming up to near the teens. It will be in the teens for most of the week, with the weekend maybe getting into the 20’s.
No precipitation expected this week in the Peace and Mackenzie, the Big Lakes could see some rain on Friday.
