Residents in the Town of Peace River are being advised that members of the Canadian Armed Forces will be in the area from May 26th to 28th for a scheduled training exercise.

Officials say approximately six to ten personnel from 1 Service Battalion will be operating in the community, mainly focusing on reconnaissance and planning procedures. Residents may notice military members in uniform using civilian-style vehicles and staying at local accommodations during the exercise.

The Town says all activities have been coordinated in advance with local authorities, and there is no emergency situation underway. Officials also stress there will be no expected disruption to public safety or community services.

The training exercise is part of ongoing efforts to ensure the Canadian Armed Forces remain prepared to assist provinces and territories during domestic operations if called upon.

BACKGROUND

Residents in and around Fort Vermilion can expect to see members of the Canadian Armed Forces in the community this week for a scheduled training exercise.

According to a public service announcement from the Canadian Armed Forces, members of 1 Service Battalion will be in the area from Tuesday, May 26 to Thursday, May 28 conducting reconnaissance and planning activities.

The military says approximately six to ten personnel will be participating in the exercise.

Members may be seen in uniform operating civilian-pattern vehicles and staying at local accommodations during the training period.

Officials emphasized the exercise has been coordinated in advance with local authorities and that no disruption to public safety or services is expected.

The Canadian Armed Forces also noted there is no emergency situation underway, describing the operation as routine training intended to help maintain readiness for supporting provinces and territories during domestic operations if needed.
