Peace River Town Council held a special meeting May 19 to discuss needed repairs to the entrance road into Lower West Peace, and the Peace Regional SPCA development permit for their new building.
The Town of approved a $250,000 budget for repairs to the Lower West Peace entrance road after a localized landslide this spring forced the road into a single-lane closure. The funding, will come from the Town’s tax-supported capital reserve, will cover design and construction work.
According to the Town, the slope management work is intended to provide a longer-term solution for the roadway. If conditions cooperate, construction is expected to be completed by the end of September, although timelines may depend on weather and contractor availability.
Council also discussed matters related to the SPCA development permit application for its new building and location during a closed session meeting. The Town said the discussion was done in a closed session as it included legal advice protected under Section 32 of the Access to Information Act, along with confidential third-party financial information provided by the SPCA.
The SPCA development permit application will continue through the Town’s regular development process. A future Municipal Planning Commission meeting will be scheduled to consider the application and make a determination.
