Northern Alberta communities are getting a boost to tackle workforce shortages and prepare for future growth. Northern Sunrise County, alongside the Town of Peace River and Lac Cardinal Economic Development, has secured 250-thousand dollars in federal and provincial funding for a new regional workforce planning initiative.
The Peace Regional Readiness and Planning Project will bring together municipalities, industry leaders, schools, and workforce organizations to identify labour gaps and develop strategies to attract and retain workers across the Peace Region.
Officials say the project will focus on skilled trades, emerging industries, and long-term economic opportunities tied to sectors like energy, agriculture, construction, and manufacturing.
Northern Sunrise County Reeve Marcel Rodrigue says the region continues to face challenges with workforce shortages, youth retention, and population growth, adding the partnership will help communities better prepare for future investment and development opportunities.
The project will also include labour market analysis, workforce forecasting, and public engagement as the region works toward building a stronger and more resilient workforce.
