Over the Victoria Day long weekend, Alberta RCMP stepped up traffic enforcement across the province, targeting impaired and unsafe drivers. Between May 15th and 18th, officers removed 122 impaired drivers from Alberta roads due to alcohol or drugs.
That included nine 24-hour suspensions, 37 WARN sanctions, 71 FAIL sanctions, and five novice or commercial drivers removed under zero-tolerance rules.
Police also issued more than 1,200 traffic tickets, including 1,142 for speeding, 26 for distracted driving, and 36 for seatbelt violations.
Despite enforcement efforts, Alberta saw 25 injury collisions and six fatalities over the holiday weekend.
Sgt. Darrin Turnbull with Alberta RCMP Traffic says officers will continue enhanced enforcement during long weekends, reminding drivers that sober driving, staying focused, and buckling up can save lives.
