Water restrictions in effect in La Crete

la-crete

Stage 1 water restrictions are now in effect in the Hamlet of La Crete and will remain in place each year from May 1st through September 30th. Officials say the annual measure is a common practice across Alberta and helps extend the lifespan of water infrastructure while avoiding costly system upgrades for residents.

The move also comes as La Crete’s average daily water use per person exceeds the national average. Leaders say conservation efforts will help protect the environment and secure water supply for future generations.

Under Stage 1 rules, residents can hand-water gardens at any time using a watering can or hose with a trigger nozzle. Recreational use, like sprinklers, kids’ water toys, and small pools under 1,000 litres, is allowed only while children are present.

Lawn watering is restricted to designated times—5 to 9 a.m. and 7 to 11 p.m.—with even-numbered homes watering on even days, and odd-numbered homes on odd days.

Residents are thanked for doing their part to conserve water this summer.
