  1. The Alberta government is beginning to test having speed limits of 120 km/h on divided highways. (Devin Dreeshen questions in separate story)
  2. From the RCMP’s Weekly Wanted File, police are looking for Becki Tori Mustus.
    Her last known whereabouts was in Fort Sakatchewan, but is noted for activities in a number of places, including Valleyview, Sturgeon Lake, Crooked Creek, Grande Prairie and Clairmont.
  3. Northern Sunrise County Council has approved their final Budget for 2026, which focuses on infrastructure maintenance, continued services, and intermunicipal partnerships. Council also approved their Tax Rate bylaw, which will see the same tax rates as last year for all property class types.
  4. Despite construction happening on the office of the Lakeshore Regional Police Service in Driftpile, it is still Business as usual.
    Building expansion is taking place, which means the entrance way, parking, and the walking pathway at the facility will have slight alterations during the construction period.
    Construction speed zones are also in effect until project completion.
  5. The Peace Regional SPCA is temporarily closed at this time, because of kennels being at full capacity.
    Staff says many dogs are being surrendered, and strays are coming in as well, making operations and comfort for the animals very difficult.
    The SPCA has to wait for adoptions to pick up, before strays and surrenders can be accepted.
  6. The Peace River School Division is seeking public input on the future of schools, and directions on what matters most.
    A Public Engagement Session is happening tonight, 7pm at TA Norris School in Peace River to help ensure future decisions reflect community values and concerns.
    A survey is also available on-line until May 8.
  7. Today is the last day to file Income Taxes for 2025. Accountants are saying that if taxes are owed, late fees and interest will be incurred.
    Taxpayers are are asked to double-check information, ensure all slips are included, and sign up for direct deposit to speed up refunds.
  8. NHL playoffs tonight… Games 6 – Edmonton is in Anaheim, and Dallas is in Minnesota. The Wild and the Ducks lead 3-2.
  9. The Toronto Blue Jays start a four-game series in Minnesota tonight. Kevin Gausman starts for the Jays against Bailey Ober.
  10. Sunny skies and Spring-like temperatures are forecasted for the Northwest, heading into this weekend.
    Highs during the day are in the mid to high teens, with lows at night being n the low to mid single digits. Temps might push 20 degrees next week.
