UPDATE

A 37-year-old man has been charged following a deadly incident in Peace River earlier this week.

The Alberta RCMP Major Crimes Unit says the charges stem from an April 23 homicide at a Petro Canada on 78 Street. The victim has been identified as 74-year-old Hashi Guled.

Police have arrested Daniel Michel Campion, who now faces charges of manslaughter, criminal negligence causing death, and dangerous driving causing death.

Campion appeared before a Justice of the Peace and has been remanded in custody. He is scheduled to return to court May 25 at the Alberta Court of Justice in Peace River.

Staff Sergeant Tyrone Brand says tips from the public played a key role in quickly identifying and arresting the suspect in what he called a tragic case.

BACKGROUND

Peace River RCMP are investigating a fatal incident at a local gas station and are asking for the public’s help.

Police say they were called just after 4:20 a.m. Thursday to the Petro-Canada on 78 Street, where a man was found deceased at the gas pumps.

Investigators believe the incident happened roughly two hours earlier. Surveillance video shows a suspect stealing a vehicle, getting into the driver’s seat, and running over the victim—resulting in his death.

The vehicle, described as a red 2005 Dodge Caravan taxi with Alberta licence plate L98636, has since been recovered.

Alberta RCMP Major Crimes Unit has taken over the investigation, with support from local forensic teams and the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Edmonton.

Police are now working to identify the suspect and track the vehicle’s movements between 2 a.m. and 2 p.m. on April 23rd.

The suspect was last seen wearing a black jacket, blue jeans, a black T-shirt with a white decal, black boots, and mismatched gloves—one grey and one black.

Anyone with information is urged to contact Peace River RCMP.
