Movie Monday Mentions: Scream 7

images-2-jpg

We have a scream for every day of the week now.

This week I saw Scream 7 in theatres. I had only seen the first one before this and didn’t really know what I was getting into. For the opening weekend, they were showing 10 minutes of bonus content, which had some behind-the-scenes teasers and even a music video to get you hyped. It actually helped fill me in on a bit of what I needed to know because it included some trivia on previous films. Once the movie started, I didn’t feel like I was missing too much, which was a good thing.

We follow Sidney Prescott as she has now become a mom. This brings a new set of challenges as she doesn’t want to tell her daughter about her dark history. Which is ironic because her daughter’s name is Tatum, named after Tatum Riley, her deceased best friend. Sidney’s quiet life as a mom is disturbed when a new Ghostface killer emerges and threatens to kill her and her family.

I thought the movie was great, the pace was fast, starting with action and having the killer be active throughout the movie. Some slasher flicks like to set up a lot of suspense and waiting, but not here. The characters were interesting and easy to connect with, so it was sad when some of them died. I liked the ending and thought it was very satisfying.

The movie is gory in all the right ways. They get creative with the kills and have Ghostface be terrifying and unrelenting. For example, near the beggining a character gets killed while using some stage wires that actors would normally use to jump around. But Ghostface strings them up like a sick twisted piece of art.

The soundtrack is fantastic; there were songs that ended up on my playlist, like ” The Kill, ” which gets used during some opening moments. or twisting the knife, which got its own music video and features McKenna Grace from the film and Nine Inch Nails.

Overall, if you’re looking for a horror slasher flick, this one is definitely worth checking out! The trailer is below, but be warned—there is violence and explicit language.
