M3GAN is back and bolder than ever.

I saw M3GAN in theatres 3 years ago and thought it was kind of an ok horror film. There were goofy dancing scenes, a weird moment where she sang, and the writing was just ok… but M3GAN 2.0 takes everything from the first movie and leans into it even more knowing what they did and really going for it.

Technically this is still a horror movie but I would say we’re leaning closer to an action thriller. The government has an A.I. weapon going rogue and the only one able to stop her is M3GAN. So, despite what she did in the 1st movie, they put their faith in her. They build her a new body to stop this incoming threat with a few upgrades.

Like I said this movie leans into everything it did before but does it better. Yes, there is a scene where she dances…and sings but the writing is so much better. I loved every word that came out of M3GAN’s mouth; she was sassy, arrogant, and the best.

The settings were fun but nothing too extraordinary. However, they do go to an A.I. convention and that does lead to some fun visuals and costume changes. Music served its purpose but nothing to stand out here either.

Overall this movie is a lot of fun but I think even better if you have seen the first one. With the world we live in where everything is a prequel sequel or reboot it feels gross to say this…but I do hope we get an M3GAN 3.0 I love this character and the world they have built. And in today’s age where A.I. is such a hot-button topic, I think some of the ideas they talk about are really relevant. Albeit is blown to the extremes at some points.
