Calgary-based Obsidian Energy has resolved a standoff with the Woodland Cree First Nation, which had blocked an oil lease road since February over concerns about expansion plans and earthquake risks.
The blockade was lifted after both parties reached an agreement in principle facilitated by a mediator.
Despite a court injunction, local RCMP did not enforce the removal of the blockade.
Obsidian’s president, Stephen Loukas, announced that the agreement, which runs through 2025, is fair and beneficial to both sides.
Production from the previously shut-down field is now being restarted.
