With more money coming to the region for different projects, Peace River MLA Dan Williams says this will help create more jobs in the region.

Speaking with the Trending 55 Newsroom, Williams says he’s quote “very optimistic about the economic and fiscal position we’re in”

“Folks have been so frustrated with COVID and restrictions and everything else I get that, but we seem to have missed the red hot economy that’s been going on for an entire year now and is just taking off. This summer is going to be huge. Last year we saw millions upon millions of dollars in road construction and infrastructure coming into our constituency, we see all sorts of projects taking off.”

Williams say some infrastructure projects set to begin in the region include new schools in Peace River and Blue Hills, and the new Del-Air lodge in Manning.

We also asked Williams about his thoughts on vaccine mandates with the situation going on in the trucking industry right now and a letter that him and another MLA wrote to post-secondary schools about their mandates.

Williams says while he encourages people to get vaccinated, they should not be mandated to and that individuals should be able to make their own informed choices.

“I’m just so upset that Justin Trudeau is forcing a mandate on Albertan truckers who are the lifeblood that pump these resources and our goods from the very North down to markets and vice-versa and he’s saying that they absolutely only have one option. If the healthcare sector can be flexible enough to allow testing, then surely the truckling industry and Justin Trudeau can do the same.”

We talked about several different topics with Williams, you can hear that discussion below.
