Wildfire Update – July 25

Support from the Canadian Armed Forces has been requested by the Alberta government for dealing with wildfire activity.

According to a statement from Forestry and Parks Minister Todd Loewen, they are requesting firefighting resources and aerial support to move wildfire crews and equipment, and more.

One of the most notable fires is the Semo Complex Fires that have people from the Little Red River Cree Nation out of their homes right now.

Air tankers and helicopters have been working to limit the southerly spread of the fire towards Highway 58.

Alberta currently has nearly 1,900 personnel, 156 helicopters and 21 aircraft responding to wildfires across the province, and some resources have come from other provinces and even other countries as well.

Evacuations from several communities across the province has over 17,000 people out of their homes.

Evacuees should register online or at a reception centre.
