Volunteers Needed For Peace River Soccer Season

The Peace River Soccer Association is looking for more volunteers so they can have their outdoor season take place.

Association President Lorna Grainger says they need more this year so that they can work around the public health restrictions for sports to take place.

“We need two coaches for each team, and we’re also looking for a manager for each team who’s in charge of making sure that the equipment is sanitized, taking attendance and doing the health screening of the kids. We also have to have somebody stationed at all of the entrances into the soccer field so that’s another position that we’d be looking at.”

Normally the season runs in May and June, but Grainger says it’s quite possible they might have to cancel the season is they don’t get enough volunteers to help.

“Our main focus for the last couple of weeks has been trying to get the word out there that if we don’t have enough people willing to volunteer and to help out, we will not be able to run a season this spring. We didn’t run the indoor season partially because of the volunteers and because of the risks. We just didn’t want to be liable for anything and we had to cancel the last spring season too.”

The practices would be on Monday’s and Thursday’s from 5:30-6:30pm and from 7:00-8:00pm and the season would go for around seven weeks. They’ll need a minimum of 93 volunteers by April 28th.
