The Town of High Level has put together an exhibit where people can celebrate the overcoming of the Chuckegg Creek wildfire.

An evacuation order was issued for the town on May 20, 2019 and the growing fire forced people to flee their homes.

Mayor Crystal McAteer says the original plan was to hold a gathering in the town to mark the occasion.

“We had invited (cabinet) ministers, as well as the fire departments that helped so people could meet them and thank them personally,” says McAteer.

“However, due to COVID-19, that was not realistic so we decided to do a virtual tour.”

Items, such as firefighter equipment, the wildfire map and even some items damaged by the blaze are on display at the Mackenzie Crossroads Museum.

McAteer says the exhibit will continue to grow.

“Every other day, we are releasing one different part of the exhibit, states McAteer.

Thanks to the relaxing of public health guidelines, the museum is now open on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays from 8:00 am to 6:00 pm and Mayor McAteer says the exhibit will be on display until at least October.
