Peace River-Westlock MP, Arnold Viersen and Sturgeon River-Parkland MP, Dane Lloyd are teaming up this week.

The two conservative members of parliament will be hosting the event as they discuss ideas on how to bring high-speed internet to rural and remote communities.

Viersen tells the Trending 55 Newsroom that Ottawa can play a role in delivering access to as many Canadians as possible.

“Through regulation, and also ensuring that the red tape is taken out of the way,” he says.

“And the government should pursue an end, rather than picking a particular method of delivering internet.”

Viersen also pointed out that residents and business owners in rural areas do have some solutions available for broadband access.

“Whether it’s beaming it over an old TV station, through radio waves, or via satellite,” explains Viersen.

“As the price of the technology comes down, there are multiple ways of getting the internet delivered and we need to, one, make sure the government pushes industry to do that, and get out of the way and change regulations around spectrum.”
