May 23 2023 – The fire remained calm around the Town yesterday. Ignition operations on the Eastern guard North of Silvertip continue to progress well providing stronger protections for Chateh. Our Fire crew continues to extinguish hot spots along the highway and near Atco pole infrastructure to assist them with their repairs.
Atco crews were able to get in on the ground today and have determined that the damage is more extensive then they had originally anticipated based on the aerial assessments. They are working on a plan to get this work done as quickly and safely as possible. We have offered whatever resources can be used to expedite these repairs.
We are comfortable enough to begin bringing down the sprinkler protections we deployed on the homes. These were layered in three tiers, working back from the tree line. The inner most tier was removed yesterday afternoon. The second tier will be removed today and tomorrow will see the front line sprinklers removed.
We had hoped to release re-entry timelines today but the assessment from Atco is still ongoing. Hopefully tomorrow we will be able to provide re-entry dates based on how long it will take to restore power to our homes.
