The University of Alberta has received a grant to help kick start research into Alzheimer disease.
With the first of the Baby Boomer generation already over 65 years old research efforts into the disease are in full swing as hundreds of millions of people could be affected.
The university received a grant of half a million dollars from the Alzheimer Society of Alberta and Northwest Territories that was matched by the University Hospital Foundation.
Researchers will be focusing on the factors that could be related to the early onset of Alzheimer’s and then targeting them for prevention.
Research into the disease has been going on for decades however due to the complexity of the disease more research is needed.
The grant will also help the university research all the different aspects of the disease including the part of the brain associated with memory called the Hippocampus.
