Town of Peace River closes main office and public services to public

Effective today, the Town of Peace River has closed its main office and public services to the public in order to ensure that town staff do not risk being affected by the spread of COVID-19. In an email to the Trending 55 Newsroom, the town states that the decision ‘is not one that has been made lightly but we are concerned with the need to protect not only members of the public but also our front-line staff’.

Residents will not be able to access services in-person at the town hall, however, town staff are currently working to allow residents to receive support through phone or email.

While the office will be closing, work and services will be continuing.

  • Utility bill payments can be made via telephone banking, online banking, cheque in mail, or in the payment slot located up the wheelchair ramp on the south side of the town hall.
  • The town’s taxi pass program will be continuing. The town asks those who need taxi service to call (780) 624-1000 between 9 am to 12 pm and 1 pm to 4:30 pm Monday through Friday to arrange taxi pass pickup.
  • Council meetings will be continuing, including one meeting today discussing COVID-19.
  • Services normally accessed at the town hall will now have the ability to be accessed via phone ((780) 624-2574) or electronic means.
    • Development and building permits
    • Taxi driver permits
    • Business licences
    • Cemetery services
    • Opening & closing utility accounts
    • Recycling and solid waste collection
    • Family and Community Support Services

The town encourages residents with any questions call (780) 624-2574, 9 am to 12 pm or 1 pm to 4:30 pm Monday through Friday. However, they should be aware that during this time that phone lines may be busier than normal, and residents should be prepared to potentially have to leave a voicemail with details such as name and phone number so staff may call them back.

Council will reopen town hall when it’s deemed safe enough to do so. The town will be posting updates to their website.
