  1. The Carbon Tax in Canada is ending, as of April 1st. That will mean instant savings at the pumps of around 18 cents per litre.
    The other question is what kind of impact will this have on the Canadian Dollar, which right now hovers around 70 cents US.
  2. With the number of measles cases in Alberta on the rise, there are growing calls for the provincial government to do more to help stop the spread.
    Meanwhile, AHS has announced some drop-in immunization clinics happening in High Level and Fort Vermilion on Saturday.
  3. They are right around the corner from coming back to help combat activities in town.

  4. Town Council in Valleyview got to speak with residents regarding the future of the public library.
    Mayor Vern Lymburner stated clearly that the library is not closing, just moving to a brand-new facility.
  5. The Local Government Fiscal Framework is being increased by 13% in 2025.
    That means a total of $820 million dollars for 2025, and $800 million dollars in 2026, will be handed out to local jurisdictions.
    In the Northwest, nine towns, five villages, 10 Counties, and four metis settlements are receiving this funding.
  6. Many communities in the Peace region and across the province have dealing with an increase in crime issues. (Interview in separate story)
    The NDP Shadow Minister for Public Safety, David Shepherd, says the different challenges around policing in rural areas means different solutions need to be addressed.
  7. All seven Canadian team are in action in a 14-game NHL schedule tonight…
    Winnipeg is in Edmonton, Calgary is in New Jersey, Vancouver is in St. Louis, Toronto plays at the Rangers, Colorado is in Ottawa, and Montreal plays at the Islanders.
  8. NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman says the League and the Players Association will begin negotiations on a new Collective Bargaining Agreement, early next month.
    The current agreement expires next September, as the NHL has a history of work-related stoppages.
  9. March Madness begins today in US College Basketball. Duke, Florida, Auburn and Houston are the number 1 seeds in the tournament.
    The Final Four takes place in San Antonio at the beginning of April.
  10. A mix of sun and cloud will be in the skies of the Northwest this afternoon. Highs will be slightly cooler than yesterday, at around, or just below zero.
    Lows tonight will be varied, from -7 in the Big Lakes, to -9 in the Peace, to -13 in the Mackenzie.
    However, the warming trend will continue into this weekend, with the possibility of double-digit numbers by Monday.
