  1. School Divisions across the country, including here in Northwest Alberta are trying to determine what caused a Cyber security breach in the Strudent Information System.
    Divisions like the Peace River School Division, and the Holy Family Catholic School Division are trying to identify if data and information have been hacked into, but the extent is unknown at this time.
  2. RCMP in Faust and High Prairie have made an arrest in relation to the accident involving a semi and several motorcycles.
    Michael Maurice Koochin of Slave Lake faces 26 charges after the collision in Sucker Creek last August.
  3. The Provincial Government is highlighting infrastructure projects that were completed, or had progressed in 2024.
    Among the projects completed was a new school in Fort Vermilion. Meanwhile, the Aurora Composite school in Manning continues to be built, and the continuation of the rebuild of the Peace River Bridge is on the radar.
    The Government is also planing the building of the Tompkins Crossing bridge to replace the ferry, and a rebuild of the Dunvegan Bridge, south of Fairview.
  4. The Provincial Government is continuing talks with the public on the restructuring of the Healthcare system.
    Meetings are being held in the second and third week in March in Peace River, High Level, La Crete, McLennan, High Prairie, and Valleyview.
  5. Preparation is underway for the 2025 Ag. Show, Home Show, and Trade Show season.
    One show in the organization stage is the SARDA Ag. Research Agriculture Trade Show, happening at the end of March in Falher. (Emily Plihal interview in separate story)
  6. Businesses are helping the recreation in the Peace River area. Roadrunner Sales and Leasing are sponsoring Hot Doggin’ Friday tonight at Misery Mountain.
    Patrons at the Ski Hill can enjoy a FREE Hot Dog with their lift pass, as they hit the slopes under the Friday night lights.
  7. NWJHL tonight… Sexsmith is in Fairview, and Dawson Creek is in FSJ. Fairview plays in Peace River tomorrow. La Crete plays two on the road this weekend.
  8. NPHL tonight… Fox Creek is in Manning. Tomorrow, FSJ ios in Valleyview, Manning is in Falher, High Prairie is in Grande Prairie, and Dawson Creek is in Spirit River.
  9. AEHL this weekend… The U-13’s play Sunday in Falher. The U-15’s play tonight at home to Spruce Grove. The U-18’s play Sunday at home to Whitecourt.
  10. The High Prairie Red Wings of the NJHL, and the Grande Prairie Storm of the AJHL, both have this weekend off.
  11. Precipitation is in the forecast in Northwest Alberta, and it’s a mixed bag. Flurries and showers are on the radar, with possible freezing rain in the Mackenzie.
    Highs are just above zero in the Peace and Big Lakes, with it just below zero in the Mackenzie. Lows will stay comfortable for the time-being and then will fall slightly during the weekend.
