  1. Traffic is beginning to flow again on the Peace River Bridge, after an accident this morning.
    Eyewitnesses say a single-vehicle accident occurred involving a large truck, causing traffic to reduced to one lane.
  2. High Prairie RCMP have ended their heavy police presence in Atikameg.
    Police were called out yesterday afternoon looking for 23 year-old Paval Laboucan, who’d escaped from authorities earlier in the day.
  3. Investigations are continuing into the Apartment fire in Peace River’s North End on Wednesday afternoon.
    Crews responded until well into the evening, containing the blaze to the unit where the fire started, however heat, smoke and water damage was sustained in adjacent units.
  4. Health Care in Alberta has had a lot of concerns raised in 2024 with doctor shortages and services not being received on a frequent basis.
    Lesser Slave Lake MLA Scott Sinclair re-raised those concerns during Question Period during a Legislature session this week. (Audio on App)
  5. Officials are marking the end of Wildfire season today, but the work is not done.
    Crews dealt with nearly 1,200 fires across the province in 2024, with the bulk of them being in the Peace and Mackenzie regions. (Mark Giles interview on App)
  6. What the province is calling a “double standard” on the carbon tax has lead to a challenge in the federal court.
    Justice Minister Mickey Amery says an exemption for home heating oils, mainly used in the eastern provinces, is quote “divisive and unfair”. (Interview on App)
  7. The days are getting shorter, the nights are getting colder, and times are changing this weekend.
    During the night on Saturday, the clocks on your phone will be turned back by one hour. Mountain Standard time goes back into effect.
  8. Local Football this weekend… The Peace River Pioneers play the Whitecourt Cats tomorrow afternoon at Glenmary School.
    The winner plays the winner of the Central/South Division in the Provincial final in two weeks.
  9. NWJHL tonight… Dawson Creek is in Fairview, Sexsmith is in Fort St. John.
    Beaverlodge at Peace River has been postponed. The La Crete Lumber Barons play tomorrow and Sunday at home to Grande Prairie.
  10. NPHL this weekend… High Prairie plays in Valleyview tonight.
    Tomorrow, Dawson Creek in Manning, Grande Prairie is in Falher, Valleyview is in Spirit River, and Fort St. John is in Fox Creek.

    The U-13’s play Sunday at home to Spruce Grove.
    The U-15’s play tomorrow in Fort St. John.
    The U-18’s play tonight in Falher, and Sunday in Fort St. John.
  12. NJHL this weekend… The High Prairie Red Wings play tonight at home to Lac La Biche, and tomorrow at home to Crowsnest Pass.
  13. AJHL this weekend… The Grande Prairie Storm play tonight and tomorrow in Olds.
  14. A chance of flurries is in the forecast for this weekend, and into next week in the Northwest. Highs will remain around zero during the day, and lows are around -5 at night.
    The weather might clear up and warm up by the middle of next week.
